I need a wife-proof, web-based programmable remote to replace all six on my coffee table.
It must be able to program multiple settings on the TV and the surround sound system simultaneously.
What I want is zero complaints from the misses when I am out of town and she wants to watch a movie on the bigger screen. (sheesh. I got her a 42'' plasma for the bedroom and it just ain't good enough some times I guess.)
Who has bought and programmed a remote that really is a one-button operation to watch a DVD, watch the dish, play songs on the iPod, etc.?
By the way, I will not spend more than $175, so you over-the-top electronic users should withhold the desire to tell me all about the Pronto or expensive Sony units that are just out of my budget range! :D
I need a wife-proof ...remote...
We're sorry, that technology does not yet exist. Please hang up and try your thread again...
I use a Harmony remote (Logitech) which is easily configurable on the internet and is a simple one button operation. My wife can actually use this remote without getting frustrated.
Good Luck,
Nick

I have this:

but it was $400.00. They do make cheaper ones, might want to look into it.

I hear that Logitech makes a great one in you price range. Check it out!

Zach, that web site has one very similar in looks to yours for less than $200. I might go that direction.
I like the blank buttons with the dumb as a stump easy to read lines like "watch TV".
Even the dog will be able to use a remote like that by accidentally stepping on a key.

The best thing about it for me, it the one touch operation.
You can set it up to do everything with one button, all set up with software on your computer
Example: If I push the button marked Cable, the TV turns on and goes to the right setting, the receiver turns on and switches to the TV tuner. I'm ready to watch
Another Example: If I push DVD, the TV switches over, the receiver switches over to DVD and then the DVD player turns on.
BTW, If your Wife messes something up, you just have to push the button to fix it. Who can ask for more then that?
Hope this Helps

that sounds like a great device, but the thought of spending $400 for a remote control sickens me. For $400, my wife can learn how to operate our system or watch a movie upstairs.

We've got that one at home. It was super expensive (don't remember how much) and sometimes it gets retarded and doesn't work right.
Go with the Logitech Harmony brand of remotes.

I have the 880 and it is very easy to use. My wife has no problem watching a DVD or the TV. Just click one button and it turns on TV, DVD player (Xbox 360), Surround Sound, and sets up all the inputs correctly.

Hmmm, I've never had any problems with mine
Hmmm, I've never had any problems with mineMy little brother has dropped it a few times so I'm sure that added to the remote's retardation.
