anyone using a small lightweight Laptop(windows)? It needs a fast processor to handle overnight/long hours of streaming data. No burning of CD/DVDs, or big hardrive necessary.
Has to to be light!
I've checked TigerDirect and a few other sites, looking for more input.

Just see if you can call dell and get one made. I have a 1705 thats maxed out, but its heavy and big and expensive (over 2 grand). But I like it. I think they have little 13 inchers and you can get dual core for it. Check out the website.

Get a (Lenovo) IBM Thinkpad! I got one and it is great! I have the T60p, It may be a bit too large for you for what your looking for. I got a 14.1 screen. They make smaller ones. It is light, thin and very reliable. Thinkpads are made to be knocked around and they have great customer service (in America!).

I 2nd the Lenovo(IBM). I drag my 3000 N100 from work-school-to home, just thrown in my backpack w/o an issue. I paid $610 after rebates. 15.4" screen,Vista Premium(which by the way sucks),2gb ram,1.6 intel penium dual core, dual layer dvd-rw drive. It's not super light, but doesn't bother me when it's in a case or my backpack. A little tweaking of the light settings on 'power saver' and I get 3 hours on my battery.

Get one of the new lightweight Dell's. I am all for the new generation of lightweights especially after lugging one of the larger Dell Latitude notebooks all over southeast aisa this summer and now back and forth to work this fall. Notebooks should be like our Boxsters, light and quick....

go to www.notebookreview.com and read to your hearts content - has lots of in depth reviews by manufacturer - kind of the bible site for notebooks

ah...very good.

p.s.
what are you guys paying for wireless internet for these lap tops?
I want to avoid paying for internet on my phone and lap top if possible, you know have one account. Would hate to be lugging around to devices that perform the same function.

I'll second that - I use an X60 (smaller version of the T60) and am very happy with it.

My Macbook is light and small and not too expensive and YES, it runs windows flawlessly.

Plus, you have the option of rebooting in OS X so you can surf and do email in a virus free environment.

I do not run any virus software whatsoever. Imagine that.

Of course, if you load Windows on a Mac, you better load up on virus software.

I do the same as Randall on a MacBook Pro. Run Windows at the office and then switch back to OS X at home. Of course the ritual self-flogging to rid the evil Windows spirits gets a bit old. Also don't forget to budget the extra cost of purchasing Windows if that's your OS of choice.

I use Verizon's cell card and I love it...I travel all over the Northeast and the coverage is excellent.

I think it was 60 a month last I checked.

Get the Mac. You will never look back.

Here's one very very good reason why a Mac makes the best Windows machine. During my last business trip in Taiwan, Windows got slower and slower and finally did not boot at all. No problem! Booted into OS X which of course always works, double clicked the Windows partition icon, and copied my files to the Mac desktop. Instant backup! Format the Windows partition and reinstall. Copied my files from Mac back to Windows and not one bit of data lost. Try that with a Dell or Thinkpad that refuses to boot! (I always travel with a Windows install disk)

Okay, before fellow engineers jump all over me, yes you can do the same with a Dell or Thinkpad if it dual boots with Linux or BSD. I have and it works fine too. Of course you need to have NTFS compiled into the kernel or included as a module, and be familiar with the UNIX 'mount' command. Happy now?

I'm typing to you now on my Dell XPS M1210. Check out their website. I've got no complaints at all. I take it to class with me all the time. The thing weighs next to nothing and is as powerful as a Macbook Pro.

The holy war begins :matchup:Hahahaha. Don't get me wrong, I love MBP's. I think MBP's are f'ing cool looking. My only gripe is that you have to buy EVERYTHING. I can't find anything pirated for them. They also get retarded hot.

Your only gripe is that you can't steal software?

Your only gripe is that you can't steal software?Yep. Also, the GUI is a lot different than Windows, but I just think that that is something to get used to.
