I have a 1995 LS400 and need to remove the door panel to replace the lock actuator but I cannot find instructions on how to remove the panel.

Has anyone done this or have a repair manual that might be able to walk me through it?

I am sure I can start yanking it off with a screwdriver, but I don't want to damage it.

Hey Randall,
This link is for up to 1994. Maybe they are similar...

Looks identical to my door.

Derb, you are a gentleman and a scholar. Thanks so much for this!

My Lexus mechanic (not Hans!) quoted me $490 to replace the electronic door lock actuator inside the door of the Lexus, saying the part was $350.

When I asked him what he'd charge to install a salvaged part I supplied, he said, "that would also be $490.00 ... for the hassle of taking it back out when it doesn't work and the fact that I don't install customer-supplied parts."

That pissed me off.

So, I bought the part online from a salvage yard in Arizona for $59 and I'm going to install it over the holiday myself.

Now will the wife give me the $431 I saved for Boxster mods?

I don't think so.

Not to be mean, but shouldn't this be posted on a Lexus forum? j.k. :p

That mechanic is a douche. Any good mechanic will allow you to find your own parts as long as they aren't liable for part failures (not due to installation). Besides the fact your reputation goes to crap for being jerks to customers like that, I wouldn't trust any business that jacks up part margins to make profit.

And if the mechanic really knew his stuff, he'd be able to at least give a supplied part a once-over and decide if it was worth installing before telling you to go #$%@ yourself.

Just my $0.02

You are indeed correct.

However, no one on the lexus forum stepped up to the plate with help.

This forum, however, helps everyone it seems and I knew I'd get some help!

Now I will return to Boxster-related stuff. I promise!

Randall,
Glad to help out.
I'm surprised that Hans wouldn't install that part. It's not like you haven't paid him lots of money for other repairs.
I had a local shop install a front control arm I supplied with no questions asked. They didn't even mention anything about warranty, etc. I'll be going back to them for another control arm replacement since the creaking disease has spread to the left rear and possibly the right side. Hopefully my rear control arm eBay purchase will be worth the 78$ and not creak.

Regards,
mike

ps: TOD again this spring?

Nice try buddy!

Gotta love the LS400. I had a 95 myself, loved it.

Randall,
Correction. I now see that you weren't talking about Hans not installing that part.
Like SNL emily latilla used to say...
Never mind.

TOD trip is slated for September 08. Weather is dry then according to Tom, our fearless MR2 Spyder leader!

Besides, I'm going to Malawi in May to make a documentary on how people are currently being raised from the dead.

Yes, you read that right.

You gotta keep us posted on that. I would love to see it when you are done with it. Going off topic here but if that subject entertains you then you should watch John Saffran vs God. Just saw it last week on the IFC and I laffed my ass off. The part where he went door to door in Salt Lake City pretending to try and be converting people to atheism was especially entertaining. I think all 8 parts are posted on You Tube for anyone wanting a good laugh. In the last episode he goes for real excorsism from a fundamentalist Christian.
