I looked at Rolex repairs on-line and there were a bunch listed - mostly claiming Rolex authorized repair. Many with what sounded like reasonable rates.
Anybody that can recommend a good repair shop for my almost 50 year old Oyster Perpetual?

Hi Mike
Find a good local shop, go in and talk to them. I just dont feel good sending it to an online company.
Last time I had mine in for a "tuneup" it was about $500.00 with a nice new saphire crystal. It's just an old 18K Gold & SS Datejust.

I met the guy who owns Time Maker and bought a preowned Rolex for my wife from him. His repair guys are great.
Last time I had mine serviced, I had it done by a local Rolex Dealer in Annapolis. They charged me $275.00 and did a very nice job. Like Marc said, look for a local shop and take the time to go talk with them. It would suck for something to happen to your watch because you tried to save a few bucks by sending it off to an unscrupulous "repair shop".
I've used the factory approved repair center in PA - not sure of the address off-hand but any jeweler that sells them can tell you instantly.

I have had mine serviced by "authorized Rolex places" and by the direct Rolex facility in Texas. It was a night & day difference. The Rolex facility was great. Price was about the same.
A tune-up now is about $550. Parts are extra if repairs are required.
Your authorized jeweler can send it our for you. Based on where you live, the location will be selected. I am pretty sure there is one in NY and LA.
Takes about 4-6 weeks. Looks like new!
Hmmm. I feel left out. I have a Seiko.

I still have the Seiko that my parents gave me in 1983. Great watch! Still wear it. Still looks brand new too.

Timex. works great. I can't have nice things that get smashed into door knobs.
My TAG Heuer has a crystal face they claim to be virtually unscratchable. Well guess who still managed.

Audioguy, Rolex will tell you every 5 years. Or you can wait till something breaks or starts running slow.
I broke (something inside) my Date Just playing lazer tag a few years ago.
I have several watches, so I only wear each one about 1-2 months per year.

Thanks to all who provided comments. I'm open to more.
My last "local" repair shop screwed me large. For almost $500 they serviced the ancient stainless Rolex and were supposed to repair the self-winding mechanism. After sending it back about a dozen times I gave up and my wife wore it as a daily winder until it recently died
The dealer (Reed's) sent my newer stainless/gold 1972 model off for a service about 4-5 years ago and it was about $350 including a new faceplate and crystal. The only problem is that they are 45 min away down in Wilmington. So I was tring to cut out the middleman and mail it myself.
Oddly I originally paid $354.00 for this watch at a PX in Okinawa.

I am a confirmed WIS (watch idiot savant) and I would suggest that you send it off through your authorized Rolex dealer to the Rolex Service Center (either Texas or NYC from your location). The watch will return as good as new. It is worth every penny.
