View Full Version : How fast have you gone in your Boxster?

OK fellow Boxster nuts, how fast have you gone in your Boxster?

My top speed so far has been 116 mph.

One of these days I am going to have to take a trip out towards the desolate desert backroads here in Southern California and take it up to the limit of what it will do.

JT

I think I was at 138 one day. The car was very stable and solid. no issues. However, I am a :chicken: and came back down to about 90 shortly after.

mjbliemel

138 MPH is pretty darned fast Jorge, you have me beat for top speed! I am going to be in Germany this December, just wish I had the Boxster to drive there. As it is I will have to settle with a rental BMW 318i. Few years ago when I went to Germany my cousin picked me up from the airport in Munich and we got on the Autobahn and lickety split we were at 260 kph in his Mercedes, I think that is about 160 mph. I guesss that is where my passion for fast driving comes from, being originally from Germany.

I hope no law enforcement people are screening this forum!!!

I too have pushed the 135+ limit, actually according to the digital spedo, I hit 142-143 for a brief second and backed down quickly. the car handled as if I was still going 90-100: impressive.

I would also like to get in to some more open road, avoiding my scare-factor, and take it to the limit........

Ahhh, these cars are fun to drive!

92 MPH, but I've only had it less than a week:D

I did 124 in my Civic Si

127 in my Accord EX

94 in my 87 Civic (top speed)

I was not driving during these below:
151 350Z Track Model
141 Mustang Cobra
143 LS400

Well I guess Supamatt had mentioned some top speeds in the Track and Cobra. Well he wasn't driving but I was, Got to those speeds for a split second, and slowed down. The cobra was my baby before I sold her for the Track. Honestly if the road didnt run out and if the car didnt have a limiter I think it could have gone up to 165 easly. I guess the 2 mile straight away in a desolut praire wasn't enuff:cool: What is the top speed of a 986? anyhow

mjbliemel
03-21-2003, 10:20
What is the top speed of a 986?

From my understanding the top speed of a regular Boxster is 155 mph.

ehljags
03-22-2003, 04:20
156 mph for the 2.7L and 162 for the 3.2L cars

mjbliemel
03-22-2003, 11:07
I was talking about 155 mph for the 2.5L which is what I have. Anyway, top speed on these cars is damned fast no matter how you look at it, few mph this way or that.

ehljags
03-22-2003, 23:31
pulled the #s out of the specs -- but who really cares? Any of these speeds will buy you some points and perhaps a day in the gray-bar hotel.......

However, after going in the 135-140 mph range, I am not sure if I want to drive any faster as who knows what else could happen.

Frankster
03-24-2003, 11:08
hi,

I did not do this myself so far - but a good running boxster s is capable of hitting the 285km/h (display) on a straight lane. This will be around 177 mph. If U calc down the 7% of tolercance this might be 164 of real mph.

regards,
frank

I have a 2001 2.7L, and my top speed was 138 mph... I was at about 5500 RPM in 4th... I backed down, but I'll tell you the car wanted to keep going... Amazingly stable at high speed, it does almost makes you want to drive faster...

Hi,

I made it up to 260 km/h (approx. 160 mph) several times. But this is the speed according to the speedmeter which is usually "pretty optimistic" ...

http://porscheboy.5u.com/garmin.jpg
I occasionally use this Garmin GPS in my Porsche Boxster... It usually reads about 2-3 mph under what my speedometer reads... I also use the same unit in my Ford Escort GT, the speed on the GPS unit is usually about 4-5 mph under what the speedometer says... So who knows??? Also, I have noticed with the GPS, that it does take a couple seconds to register new speeds (I am guessing the time to take to decipher the satellites and the units information)... It's all pretty close anyway... If your speedo reads 100 mph, most likely you are going right about 100 mph... A couple up, a couple down...

ehljags

so how many hands were required to get the pic? Assuming one to hold the GPS, one for camera, and ooops; I forgot, 2 hands on the steering wheel ...

PorscheBoy
05-26-2003, 01:57
Well, the GPS is mounted on a bracket that is removable, so just one to take the pic and one to steer and shift...

its hard to get a good speed built up as i fear some clown is going to pull in front of me but i clocked 0-140 yesterday on my camcorder also. not bad it gets 0-140 quicker than a subaru impretza wrx STI does.

thats was fast but holds well at 140. i didnt really want to go any faster as i was nearing another car.

I normally just sit at 110 or 120 on fast roads..

MPH i was doing about 140 mph. give me a few mins i will upload a small vid its a bit unsteady as its hard to steer and hold a cam with the other hand lol

I have been flashed by the police cam doing 135 and never got a ticket, now i was either going to fast or the good old photoblocker i bought from ebay worked a treat :D

155 mph (indicated.)

This was in some hills in the high desert of New Mexico just around dawn. I sustained 130-150 for about 45 minutes. I estimate the top speed with the top down at 160 mph (indicated.) I kept having to downshift(145-150mph) into 5th for the hills. Top up it goes faster.

The irony was that later that same day I got a ticket doing 72 mph in a 70 zone.

Got some of my best gas mileage (18mpg?) at that speed.

In several Arizona low desert tests, I noticed window positions, etc. make a difference at high speed. My top down tests show: Roof Transport System mounting brackets subtract about 5 mph. The 1st window rolled down subtracts about 5 mph. The second window subtracts about 2mph. Raising your hand through the open roof noticeably slows the car above 140 mph.

re: wow -

Folks on the PPBB have reportedly gone much faster - There is one guy who has a photo of 160+ on one of those roadside radar "Your speed is.. signs". He got to do this LEGALLY in the Silver State Classic.

In my last year living in NY state - I've probably only exceeded 120mph 2 or 3 times, and regularly drive within 5mph of the speed limit. Way too many houses, people and officers around to safely drive at speed.

It sure makes me itch to get back to the track - next track date 4/24 at Lime Rock.

Now this wasn't in my boxster, but it did give me Porsche fever something fierce...

did what every boy dreams and rented a 2000 911 cabriolet from Avis rent a car in the Berlin airport and took it out heading west on the brand new autobahn they built after taking back east germany.

Got that rascal up to 162 mph and sustained it for half an hour. Quiet and wonderful at that speed, but my white knuckles and poor passenger (a missionary who kept praying in German, English and some unknown tongue) just couldn't stand keeping it up there for any longer. Too many cars were going slowly in front of us, even in the far left lane.

BTW, before you ask, it was 629.00 to rent the car for the day, with every insurance rider I could purchase on it. Oh yeah, burned 3/4 tank of premium at $5 a gallon doing it, which was $73 at the pump.

Never really told my wife how much I spent, but I tell you, I dream OFTEN about flying back over for a weekend with buddies and we all rent them and scream around the autobahns. Any takers?

Its in the Finger Lake area of NY. West of Ithaca. According to Mapquest it's about 90 miles from Syracuse. In relation to Syracuse, Watkins Glen would be to the South West. The Glen used to host Formula One Grand Prix race of the US for many years.
The other race track would be Lime Rock in Conn. but that should far for you.

130 mph. That's warmup speed for driving fast - right?

At 130 in the S you've just gotten introduced to 5th gear - there's another gear there that makes a satisfying upshift at 150.

seriously Richard - enjoy your car at any speed. Since I migrated to the East Coast, I can barely go over 80MPH without paying a bunch of money to borrow Lime Rock or Watkin's Glen. I miss the desert Southwest.

Boxster Press drive

Scottsdale Princess Resort.
Saturday, September 14, 1996

The press gets thier first drives in the Porsche Boxster

Porsche representative Olaf Lang launches into the briefing. Showing slides detailing the Boxster's specifications, he explains its mechanical functions, including the new 5-speed Tiptronic (roughly half the 40 cars are equipped with it, the others with the 5-speed manual). Lang instructs his audience on how to adjust the interior ergonomics to suit individual needs, information which will later come in handy when the pairs switch position midpoint on the trip.

Next, Lang details each road that makes up the 34-mile rally route, then releases the audience with one final instruction: "Don't drive beyond your capabilities. The Boxster is tempting and the road is curvy."

The first leg leads from the Scottsdale Princess out to the main
road. This short drive offers a quick familiarization with the car.

In the briefing earlier, Olaf Lang had described Pima Road, the next segment, as a wide four-lane road with a posted 50 mph speed limit. As he promised, it proves to be a time to stretch the legs of the Boxster. On this straightaway, the rallyists feel the first exhilarating rush of wind in their hair. Yet Pima Road also replicates much of American driving--restricted cruising on blacktop crowded with other cars. This would be the Boxster's first test. If it could liven up this eight-mile stretch of featureless pavement, just imagine what it could do for one of Arizona's more curvaceous highways.

As they cruise past 10-foot Saguaro cacti and head toward the mountains, drivers get a feel for the Boxster on the open road. Those driving the Tiptronic-equipped cars enjoy the quick, precise gear changes as they run the new 5-speed through its paces. And even as they feel the wind rush past, they note how smooth a slipstream the convertible cuts through the desert air. Thanks to the effective body design and the tiny removable windscreen between the rollbar hoops, the cockpit remains remarkably free of turbulence, as Porsche racing driver Hurley Haywood observes when he takes us for a ride.

The Pima road warm-up completed, the Boxsters take a right onto the route to Bartlett Lake. After a brief jaunt on Cave Creek Road, drivers negotiate the winding leg up Horseshoe Dam Road, a collection of long sweepers and tight 25-mph switchbacks surrounded by hills, with a few wide open straightaways crossing the valleys in between.

This two-lane highway swoops through the mountainous Arizona desertscape, presenting drivers with a series of flat curves and the chance to exercise the Boxster's abilities. Here rallyists experience firsthand the range of qualities the Boxster promised when unveiled earlier in the day: the neutral handling, the familiar precision of the steering, the silky, confident braking that is a Porsche trademark. Working through the corners reveals the beauty of the sportscar's mid-mounted engine layout: ideal weight distribution.

As the road dips and climbs through the valleys, drivers revel in the Boxster's precise gearing and rich powerband. Their suspicions are confirmed: this car will have no trouble earning its place in the Porsche lineage.

All too soon for those driving, Bartlett Lake approaches, and the cars pull into the paddock area, park under tents and fall silent for a moment. Here, in the shade overlooking the cobalt waters, drivers and passengers get out of the cars and trade impressions with a cold drink in hand. The respite is brief, however, as those piloting the return trip are anxious to take their turn. Soon the sound of a Porsche flat six is heard, warming up as rallyists prepare to wheel around and do it all over again.

After an invigorating 30 minutes behind the wheel, drivers' judgments have solidified: The Boxster is pure Porsche.

re: "drivers negotiate the winding leg up Horseshoe Dam Road, a collection of long sweepers and tight 25-mph switchbacks surrounded by hills, with a few wide open straightaways crossing the valleys in between."

Don't expect to see a 10-foot Saguaro, the Saguaros on this road are closer to 10 meters high. Nothing 25 MPH about those switchbacks either. I've done that whole Horseshoe Dam Rd at 45mph on cruise control (just to prove I could). A few of those long sweepers are 4th gear sweepers.

This is a magnificent desert road if you ever find yourself in the Scottsdale/Phoenix area with your Boxster. In 2002, Penske moved thier Porsche dealership to North Scottsdale, so it is easy to combine this Horseshoe Dam rd ride with a visit to the Porsche Dealer and the Penske museum (Scottsdale rd & N 101 loop freeway) .

wow 180 is quick, when i clocked 150 mph it was very quick and it wanted to keep on going but i was scared someone pulled out in the fast lane and i smashed into them so i broke as i clocked a a car starting to pull out... so i tucked in..

a while ago

i was at set of lights a while ago and i will never forget this... i am in the left lane and in the right was some boy racer with his annoying music BOOM BOOM BOOM , i think his car was a nova with bright colours all over his car, blacked windows and a tailpipe that was 8 times the size of my boxsters, i started laughing... i think he seen me as i heard fuc****g porsche poser... who do you think you are.. so i ignored the little frecked faced spotty youth. As the lights changed red he stalled it.. lol it was GREAT! so i pulled of normal waited for him to catch up and waited for him to get level and i took off ... i must admit even i was suprised at the distance i got as he was nowhere to be seen after 15 seconds he was SOOOOO FAR away.. so anyways around 4 mins later i saw him in my mirror so i waited and waited and he came past me BLUE SMOKE everywhere tooting his little horn... i burst into laughter at this stage and let him pass i already burnt the little freek off once... and i saw all there friends in the back seat giving me the finger and some blonde bimbo girl around 20 years old swearing that bad it would make your nose bleed this girl was screaming..... lol i was just smiling as by now they can see the porscha from the front in all its glory!
anyways around 10 miles down the road i saw him with his engine smoking and everyone out of the car... so i tooted when i drove by and pointed at the front of my car and one of the tall youths started actually running after me... i was doing like 80 mph and he was running after me... as if he could catch me..

i dont think i will be driving around there anymore... it was very ruff! i think they eat there own children in that area...

Over the weekend I decided that most of the time, when a rice burner or Mustang driver wants to race me, they have no intention of trying to win or even keep up. They just want me to nail it and show them what my car can do. Why waste the fuel and my ailing 1st gear for this?

Oh yeah, to keep the thread's origination, I had my 97 boxster up to 105 last week. As soon as I have it in the shop for a couple of expensive fixes (rear subframe is off a few milimeters and the tranny needs work or replacement) I'm going to take it to the country and see how fast I can make it go. I want to hit 150 if at all possible.

Does the top being up or down have any impact on top speed?

I rented a Carrerra in Germany in 2000 and sustained 162 mph for 15 minutes or so. Very nice.

also i had my roof down whoch slows the car down alot.... best to have the hood up...

Substract(-) about 5MPH for the top down
- another 5MPH for both windows down
- another 5MPH for the Roof Rack mounts

below 140, the seat of my pants can't tell the difference in acceleration, so I leave my front roof rack mounts on at the track.

PS. It helps to go to red line in each gear

PSS. It is fun to stick your hand up above the windshield at 150 and feel the car slow down in response.

These 4-inch flying cockroaches run into people and trees while flying at 15 mph (I've been hit 3-4 times). They would put a major hurt on your hand at 150!

Interesting thread. I am going to pick up my first Porsche tomorrow- a 97 Boxster with 17,000 miles. I'd love to top end it, but I've gotten 3 speeding tickets this year so far. Ohio isn't the best place for the open road.

Previous bests: 125 mph in a 78 Z-28 Camaro (my first new car)
123 mph in an 81 Prelude
140+ in my father's modified 70 Z-28 (what a ride)

mrmickeymouse
09-16-2004, 02:34
Wow that 70's Z...Nice !!!!!!!!!!!

Be careful with the Boxster .....

You will see triple digits come faster then you can shift, Mine does not like to do less then 80-85 cruising.

When I hear people doing 70 in a Boxster, I do not know how they do it ???

The car wants to go as fast as you want to go...

Usually you will notice the triple digits about the same time you get the biggest grin you have ever seen :)

Be careful and have fun...

If you want to get into a radar detector debate, the Valentine is one of the favorites, though personally I use the Passport 8500 X50...and I LOVE it, its been great.

Of course, you have a lot more to worry about than detecting radars if you get caught going 125 mph...

This modded fox body was messing around with me the other day when a friend and I were out cruising around in my 03 S. I've raced modded 5.0's before and murdered them so I'm thinking this guy may have dropped in a nice crate engine because he was almost as fast as me and he had a car load of people. After we had two close races he continues to follow out on a desolate 2-two lane country road. I'm cruising along at about 95-100mph when he comes back and gets right on my @ss. I slip it into 5th and floor it. He sticks with me until about 120mph but I just keep it floored and hang on. At 140mph the car was barely making much forward progress and just creeping up in speed very slowly. I lost my nerve and let off at 140mph and left that pesky stang in my wake. I think having the top down is a major deficit however at speeds above 120mph. Next time the top will be up.

a tweaked rice burner was tailing me last saturday afternoon so I took it to 105 and he couldn't even keep up... no news there.

But it still pisses me off that so many people ride my @ss just to get close to a Porsche and don't keep a safe driving distance. A tap of my brakes due to slow traffic in front of me and they'll total my ride!

the fastest i have ever been is 150mph and i didnt know i coldnt go that fast.. It was just like sitting at 110, it just shows how good porsche are at top speed.
I took a pic of it with my phone but that was last year sometime.
Randell i know what you mean about when people ride your tail... its annoying and when i stop at lights i crindge when i check my rear view and see a car still comming to me full speed. If someone did wreck my car by not slowing down or driving to close i will proberly be charged with murder as i will kill them :D

174mph tweaked '95 M3 - stayed in front of a 993 with $30k engine work on the way to a Sebring track day. At the track, I trashed a set of new tires trying to pass a standard Boxster. Bought a Boxster the next month and never looked back.

165mph Ducati 916 - a bit nerve wracking on the open road - don't sit up when you back off the throttle!

145mph '99 2.5L Boxster.

I am sure there was some significant speedo error in the above, there always is.

I “TRIED” to race a Diablo VT 6.0 last year driving in the middle of Il. Here is the story doing about 80-85 with a buddy two sets of clubs, 2 luggage bags and the top down on the way to go see Rams pre-season. I look in the rearview to see a red Diablo flying up. I ask my buddy do you want to race a Lambo. "where are you going to get a Lambo in the middle of nowhere. “About that time he slowed down to get right next to me he smiled so did I. I dropped it into 3rd and we were off. No other cars for a mile or so then we were coming up on some as I hit 152. Wow that’s fast. He had me by about 4 cars I have never been so proud to loose a race as to a Diablo by just 4 cars. 5 min later we slowed down to see a cop go the other way. then back to 125-140 cruising amazed on how my friend and I could speak to each other at that speed with the top down. since I have hit that speed 2-3 times but never as fun as seeing the taillights of a red Diablo at 150mph. That story really surprises me with the Lambo...I hope he wasn't playing with you! If not, then that's pretty cool.

I usually avoid taking major highways around here when I take trips into town from the base. I just get too much attention in upstate mississippi with this car. I choose the backroads where I don't see very many other cars, and where I can enjoy a nice peaceful drive.

Much too often I get egged into flooring it at stop lights when there are people revving their engines, and find myself doing double the speed limit or better before common sense kicks in.

At least I know I'm in the right profession!

236kmh/147mph (indicated) in my old Corrado G60 on the Autobahn, quite a few times. Good high speed car. That was flatout, though downhills would squeeze a few more rpm and km/h out of it ;) !

About the same in a TT in Germany; a little over 130 in my TT Stateside, with top down, then ran out of room/nerve.

I don't have a Boxster - yet! Though I'm dreaming of having one, within about year. :)

I don't want to call out a fellow boxster owner, but your story seems fishy. What do you have...a boxster S? Unless you have atleast a 3.4L engine swap a S/C or nitrous I don't see that scenario happening. Even then 4 cars is very tough to believe. Even a boxster S would seem like it's standing still next to that car. A 500hp Diablo should completely obliterate a boxster in a race...especially a 85-150mph roll! You should have been a very distant spec in his rear view. I believe you so I can only think of two scenarios.....He was messin with ya, or, the more likely of the two....... it was a KIT CAR.

Am I wrong that the Box S is speed limited at 155MPH?

Also, in theory the Diablo should have walked away. Two or three scenarios as I see it.

He did not want to hammer the car, simply let you shadow him? I have done that while driving a ZR1 and I knew the other guy simply could not stay with me.

Or: I was a bogus Diablo, they do exist out there and are hard to spot at speed.

Or: perhaps this Diablo was not running very well.

In any event, those are some impressive speeds!

:)

I believe my manual says the top speed for my 03 is 164 mph. Older S models are 1-2mph less. 2.5L boxsters have a top speed of 149 mph. Boxsters are not electronically nannied like BMW's ands some other euro cars at 155mph. They are "drag limited" by wind resistence. A diablo has a top speed of nearly 200mph and does the 1/4 in 12 flat.

While we're not speed monitored, we do have the electronic rev limiter watching us, right? I'd have to look at the gearing curves to see where we hit the limiter in 5th (base) and 6th (S) to figure out if that is a limiting factor in top speed... if we have a good tailwind ;) !

Adam

I'm about 99% sure we run out of HP before we run out of gear in stock form. You won't hit the rev limiter in top gear. However, I would be interested in finding out what the top speed would be at redline in top gear. Anyone have a calculater?

I got up to 146 mph on the Autobahn this past weekend in my 98 Boxster 2.5 (American specs). I was on A-70 between Bamberg and Schweinfurt. I had been going 130 mph about 220 km/hr when I had a BMW and an Audi station wagon come up and try to pass me, so I moved over. Then when the Z-4 passed me is when I got up to 146 mph. The tac was right near 6000 RPM and I didn't want to push it anymore. It's a sobering feeling when you're doing 130 mph and that's too slow for someone in an audi station wagon. Not to mention, Germans have a habit of jumping into the left lane, once they come up on a slow truck, without regard for who's coming up behind them.

In the US the fastest I took it was 128 mph on I-40 from California to Oklahoma. I think I was in eastern New Mexico at the time.

Yeah, it seems the boxster S pullls good until about 140mph. That is my max speed so far and the top was down! The wind is very violent and almost beats you up at that speed top down. I had the gas floored in 5th and the needle on the tach was barely moving forward. It's unusual having the gas floored and seeing the engine running at about a constant 6,500 rpm and the needle just barely creeping forward.

Well I was slowing down when I saw 112 on the digital. I was chasing a ZR1 Corvette down 495 from Tyson's. We picked up a Black SSR as a trailer, and I hit 100+ a couple of times during the run. Must say I love those brakes. Some dude a couple of cars ahead of us decided to hop over into the right lane, just as we saw it was clear... pushing 90+ and the guy was going less that 65... scrubbed off the required speed, hoped two lanes to the left, by bye Corvette.
The run was awesome... 80+ all the way. I would have to say that I won't be doing that again for a while... only have had the car for a week now and seeing 7000rpm in 3rd was enough for me.

105 the first week I had the Boxster, on an empty interstate just running it up through the gears. Didn't feel like I was going that fast at all. I probably went over that on the track, but the longest straight ends in a 135 degree corner, and while you're screaming into it wide open trying to figure when to stand on the brakes, it never occurred to me to look at the speedometer.

I did 120 today on a deserted road between El Paso and Alamagordo. I was cruising along and happened to glance in my rearview mirror and got lambasted by a Audi A6 before I could even hit the pedal. I got to 120 with the top down and that was about all she was going to do. My windstop was bowed out and I honestly thought she was going to let go. While I was at 120 for approximately 15-30 seconds all I could think about was losing my license. I let that Audi go...good thing I did. About 7-8 minutes when I finally caught up to him he had someone else behind him...New Mexico's finest.

I hope I never have to do it, but I can only imagine that you or myself will have to start a new forum thread entitled "How bad was the jail time for you?" as we all cry in our beer about being arrested for reckless driving and lose our licenses for a year and get a whopping fine to add insult to injury!

Lord knows I love to drive fast on occasion, but the thought of being arrested and having my license pulled (not to mention watching them tow off my Boxster, never to see my radar detector, stereo, rollbar inserts or windscreen again) has helped me be quite the "law-abider" these days.

--> "Law Abider" in quotes in that I rarely drive 25 mph over the limit any longer where I would be arrested, not fined.

If anyone has been arrested for driving waaaay too fast, I sure would appreciate you posting your sob story here to slow down some of the others on this list. I sure would hate to hear new stories of accidents or getting arrested for driving fast!

Mr. Boone

Randall, As usual you are right and as usual you have made your point quite well. Now I've got to change my tune and concur that driving at these speeds anywhere is extremely dangerous and particularly so on a public highway. Even though you may know the limits of your own driving abilities and of your car, all it takes is for another driver to inadvertently get in your way and the results can and probably will be death.

Let's all save the excessive speeds for the race track and only with the right training, safety equipment and a full emergency response team on hand.

I hit a personnal best today. I was on my way to work today at 7:30 and as I pull onto the interstate I notice a black 350Z behind me. I speed up at a decent clip and he was riding my bumper so I decided to turn it up a notch and lose this guy. I first go up to constant 120mph and he just stays with me. Luckily traffic was light, the road was freshly paved, my top was up and we had a slight tail wind so I decided to see what this guy had. We hit a clear section so I hit 130, then 140 and he was still beind me. I stayed on the gas and I was going scary fast. I looked down for a slit sec and my digi speedo read 151mph. I look back and he was only about 1/8 mile behind me so I came to my senses and slowed down before I got arrested or killed. The 350z went around me and I took my exit. The car pulled beautifully today. Because I had the top up and some tail wind the car hit 150mph with ease and it had more left in reserve. I was full of andrenaline and shaking for about a 1/2 hour afterwards. I agree with automon, speed is addictive, but I won't be breaking this record for quite some time I'm sure. Hello all,

Damn, I thought I went fast already but compared to some of you guys...all I can say is damn!!!

From at toll booth late late at night when I was the only car:
148mph on my G35 6MT
157mph on my 986 S

Both cars were very stable at high speeds!!! With the 986 though it didn't feel that I'm going fast...very aerodynamic!!! Awesome!

PS: Sorry to hear about your loss...I agree racing is for the track.

Given the valid points made above regarding speed, I am inclined to sunset this particular thread.

Any objections to that?

Thanks

Brucelee, while I don't condone some of the actions (excessive speeding) in this thread, your suggestion of removing these posts is nothing short of censorship, IMHO. There is nothing vulgar or insulting in these posts, which may constitute some editing on your part, in the future. Possibly the only thing wrong is some optimistic exaggerations! The lesser of the 2 evils is to let a few forum members ramble on about their driving habits...not censor the thread.

I don't have a problem with censorship, as we are not running a democracy here at the forum. For better or worse, the Golden Rule applies-- "he who has the gold gets to make the rules."

However, lets not go down that road.

The real issue to me is does this particular thread really serve any useful purpose and does it in any way endorse or promote behavior that can be particularly deadly. If so, the cost of deleting it seems small in comparison to the possible consequences involved.

More input?

OK Brucelee, than start deleting all the threads that give advice on performance mods while you are at it!

No need to throw a tantrum! Performance mods do not equate to dangerous high speed driving on public roads. They may be used safely and legally at appropriate sporting events.

We have heard from you, now others may comment if they want to.

Richard, I think you should lock this thread even though I've bragged about my top speeds myself three pages back. It doesn't encourage safe and responsible driving on public roads, that's for sure. But, you're gonna have to keep locking down and removing threads of this kind, so don't think you are done with it after you do it to this thread!

I'm no different than most every other driver on this forum... I bought the car to drive fast and I do it all the time. And the newer the sensation, the more you want to tell others about how fast you drove your shiny Porsche. It's just a fact of life.

The best way to curb it once and for all is to write a new rule into forum bylaws that states that users "agree not to post descriptions of, or suggestions to break laws and endanger themselves or others" or something like that.

Then you can axe the threads at will like you'd do to a vendor if they were selling parts on this forum as a non-paid sponsor of a banner ad.

I promise not to post any more threads about how fast I drive. Really.

No one is throwing a "tantrum" Richard. I have young children, and believe me I know what a tantrum looks like!

Just because someone disagrees with you, you take a personal stab at them. I have seen you do this before on this forum, during my very short involvement. Simply put, Richard, I expected more professionalism from you. Oh well.

"OK Brucelee, than start deleting all the threads that give advice on performance mods while you are at it!"

I thought this comment was a bit childish on your part. This inquiry was my way of saying that, in fact, no one was interested in deleting ANY threads, simply sunsetting this one. Certainly no reason to get in a huff or anything.

Anyway, if you want to start throwing insults my way (my lack of professionalism, you know), you can always move on to another forum where they are, well, more professional!

PS-We already know how you feel. I have asked others for their input. Please allow them to do so.

Randall,

Thanks for the thoughts.

I appreciate how sensitive this issue can be and hey, I am no saint. I just was wondering if we weren't being just a tad childish here, bragging about how much we have all broken the law and all.

I shouldn't have posted...didn't know a lot of people here are too sensitive and emotional about this subject...which is really the only thing childish in this thread that I can see.

Richard, I think it all boils down to the fact that you own this forum. You get to moderate any way you like, and I love this forum because I enjoy the interaction, helpfulness and the way you moderate.

Please continue to moderate in a way that is profitable and healthy for all of us, even if we don't like it from time to time. Anyone who doesn't like it can find other forums, but they'll be back because we have a great online community here. I for one appreciate all I learn here and all I can give from my own discoveries, trials and tribulations owning this special car.
