I haven't been there in a long while, but it was nice when I was there. Dublin especially has a lot of history and its not huge so you can get around fairly easily. The sound east tip of the island is very mild (forgot what the area is called), they get a nice breeze from the gulf stream.
Plus on top of it, England is a short boat ride/plane trip away!

I've been to Northern Ireland. It's beautiful. And you can drink beer while you walk around and look at the beauty of the place.
I just can't see anything wrong with this
Well, there is one. The dollar is worth nothing against the Pound and you'll wince every time you order a beer or food or pay for your hotel, or whatever.

The Young ladies are pretty, tend to have fair skin and red hair. And, they are sassy and will drink you under the table.
Does that help?

If you're still making plans, I can heartly recommend County Clare, if you're looking for "old Ireland", try the area around Doolin and the Cliffs of Moher, and the spa town of Lisdoonvarna (Should you decide to try the waters instead of the ubiquitous Giunness). For more thrills, drive over the mountains from Tralee to the Dingle Peninsula. Try the sauteed Skate, the coast road. You might get lost (most of the signs are in Gaelic) but it won't matter.
