View Full Version : Tell me about this excellent Ferrari
Last night I went to dinner and this car was in the parking lot. I should have taken more pics. It was in mint condition and a lot of fun to look at. The parking brake and tall shifter were especially cool. :)

Could that have been a replica? I dunno.
I don't know enough about vintage Ferraris to know myself. In fact, I've made it a habit not to learn much about Italian sports cars because I'll never be able to afford one and I don't like to tempt myself.

Looks like an original Ferrari California, featured in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.
Ferrari is releasing a new California in 2009: http://www.ferraricalifornia.com/
EDIT: Also, one just sold recently for almost $11M: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/05/19/1961-ferrari-california-spyder-sells-for-record-10-894-900/

haha, yeah I was gonna say that looks like the Ferrari California until I saw that already posted. BTW that is considered to be an extremely desirable Ferrari, but a lot of Ferrari execs didn't want to make it at the time! Enzo cleared it not because he thought it was a good idea or bad, but he just wanted money to fund his racing program :D
hey, cash is king!

PF CHang's?!
Uff I love that place!!
F-car could be replica or it could have a Ford 427 under the hood.
Those cars are usually too valuable to leave unattended in a parking lot.

thats what an original looks like. If its a replica, its pretty spot on from the pics I've seen.
The ignitions on those cars are pretty cool too, you turn them to the ON position and then push the key in to turn the engine over
There are some neighborhoods 'up the street' from me with multimillionaires and kabillionaires, so there is a chance its the real deal. I don't know how to tell. Maybe the not-shiny exhaust pipes? Who knows? Anyway, I am glad to know what model / year and I think I would look really great driving one. :) It is a good looking roadster.
I also bet I like driving my 2004 Boxster better than a 1961 anything. :)
Yes, PF Chang's is the best!

I just saw a whole bunch of them last week... not sure why they're all red?

wouldn't it be cool if Porsche had a specific color that was quintessentially porsche?
Silver is pretty popular these days with Porsche (and audi) cause it makes your cars blend in with the crowd, but I wish these was a british racing green of Porsche...or germany

And it's in the parking lot at PF Chang's! Heheheh. I've always sworn if I ever get my hands on a Ferrari I'm taking it through the drive-thru at McDonalds.

:) Are you a kabillionaire? :)
Mind if I find out how driving a '61 California Ferrari compares to an '04 boxster?

Guards Red? It is certainly different than the typical red on other cars and is identified with Porsche. Silver has typically been "the" color for German cars as a whole from a racing and historic stand point, and it looks sexy with red interior.

Yeah, I guess we would have to go with Guards Red or silver. Red has been available on porsches for quite some time. Ill have to take a closer look at it when I see one in person next time. I was looking at an 01 boxster S that was silver with a red interior. I was not very thrilled about the red interior, it had fadded I think to a sort of pinkish red. If it was a deeper red I woulda made an offer on the car right away

If that Ferrari is indeed the real deal then, wow, what a nice car. I enjoy the vintage cars ... hope to own some vintage Porsches someday.
I would have to agree that as far as color goes, Guards Red or Silver are the quintessential Porsche colors. To be honest, I was happy to trade in the Guards Red 944 for a black Boxster. I could have had silver but wanted to "blend in" with traffic a little more.
I felt like cops could see a red car coming from a mile away (good for them, bad or me) ;)

Bringin back some serious memories...my wife and I lived in Duluth back in the day...can name the exits on 85N by heart if needed. Loved Atlanta, my wife worked at Emory Clinic and I worked at Beers Construction...miss that place very badly..
