IMO, GM has had problems since the 70's. My biggest impression has been a lack of long term reliability, although I believe that has been improved. But the cars are generally ugly, to my eyes, and any that I have driven have been woefully heavy and underpowered and really boring to drive. I had a woman that was from the midwest U.S., probably Michigan, that read me the riot act when I bought a Honda. It was a very unamerican thing for me to do, in her very opinionated opinion. She gave me several reasons why I was a near criminal and I just shrugged my shoulders and said that I couldn't afford to by GM; that I have to be thoughtful on how I invest my money. The point is, I think, that high gas prices are making a change in people's decisions, but I think GM has been on the edge of survival for a long time.

On the reliability note: I am hugely disappointed with the reliability of my 04 Boxster. I don't think I have made an intelligent purchase with it, although it has been a blast.

I wouldn't mind driving that Lotus. :) I don't think it is a very sexy looking car, but I wouldn't turn down an opportunity to spin one around and see what it does.

"Blaming" may be a strong word. He lists those 3 items as factors. I do like that he didn't say "gas prices," rather, the sudden increase in the price of.

I will agree with him in saying that after the downfall, it's the product that survives the test. However, for me, their product has never been much to write home about.

Good post.

So now the copied copies the copier?
If you will notice, the Miata is an Elan, the RX8 is a Super Seven with enclosed fenders and roof ( http://www.pbase.com/arnon_g/image/46918122) and now the Evora is basically a mid engine RX8?
