I'm a Mac user and did a favor by rebuilding XP on a friend's computer.

Loaded the OS and all his software, and set up a 2nd user account for his elderly mother.

If I log in with his user account (the administrator) I see all the programs. Her? Microsoft office isn't to be found.

Someone please tell me what to fix so I can wrap up this favor and walk away.

Please. Help me. :ah:

When you installed office on the computer did they ask you about settings for different users while installing office? also did you look at the account settings while logged in as the administrator? i work IT but i haven't used windows for a while... :)
When i have a chance ill dig deeper

Greetings from a fellow Mac user. The XP start menu is simply a directory tree. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs is where you want to put things that apply to all users. Your friend's programs are here C:\Documents and Settings\_USER_NAME_\Start Menu\Programs. Copy anything related to MS Office from his tree to all users.

You fool !!!
From my extensive computer experience, take the thing directly to the dumpster and give it a good heave!
Go directly home and use your still working computer to help him order a new unit, with all needed software installed by the manufacturer and then don't let ANYONE touch it. It is the only way to keep it from locking up, spitting up, screwing up and ceasing to ever work again!

No, no. It can't be that bad. I think Timothy is on the right track, although I would personally have to be on the computer to trouble shoot it. But it starts with looking at the c:\ drive and figuring out how/where that second user is dropped in the system. XP, in its efforts to be more idiot friendly, has some quirky user folder things going on. I have relatives that use the 'dual user' setup, and when I was trouble shooting something else that was going on I discovered the folder setup that makes them think they have their own partitions. That second user is on the same drive and thus same OS as the other user. It is very simple in design, but can feel like a big problem from an interface perspective.

I've found a Linux installation CD will solve even the worst Windows problems.

Timothy, what you recommended worked. Thanks!

Even though the solution's been found, let's continue to trash Windows in this thread.

Apple is heading into double digit market share on the OS side of business and I'm all for the demise of Microsoft :)
