View Full Version : What's your screen name mean?
RandallNeighbour
04-26-2005, 19:05
Hey everyone, I'd like to know the significance or meaning of your screen name. Why did you choose it to identify you on this forum? What does it show about you? If it's an abbreviation, what's it stand for?
Porschekid
04-26-2005, 19:17
Mine's pretty self explanitory... but I had this screen name long before I had my Porsche. They have always been my favorite cars, now I can just live up to the name.
Old Fart
04-26-2005, 19:19
I've been "Old Fart" on so many different BBS's (Jeeps, boats, weapons, etc) for so long - I can't remember why I picked that screen name. Depending on the board, my age (47) sometimes makes me the Old Fart - sometimes (rarely) I'm the 'youngin in the group :)
Morelli is my last name. My alias on several other web boards is MatT3T4. It's a hybrid of my first name (Matty), and a turbocharger designation (T3/T4).
Brucelee

I have a lifelong interest in martial arts. Bruce was simply an awesome artist, martial and otherwise.
Mine is just a take on my screen name on the BMW forums (Lux Interior). I used to have an E36 M3 with the Luxury Package.
Speaking of Bruce Lee, the guy was way ahead of his time. I've seen old videos of him demonstrating his 1" punch and knocking people over with it along with other feats of strength. So Brucelee, do you study Jeet Kune Do?

QporscheQ

I actually have a good story for this one. The Porsche part is obvious, since I've been into Porsches as early as I can remember. However the Qs were a random decision I made about 8 years ago not realizing I would still at this point in my life hang on to.
"QporscheQ" was my Quake 1 (and eventually every other online game I played after that) name way back in the day. Hence the origin of the "Q"s (for Quake). It was just "Porsche" for a while, but every once in a while I would run across some one with the same name, so I put some Qs on the out side to distinguish myself. Typically, people use Xs for this purpose, but I was sadly hooked on Quake at the time. I've played a few of those game were you can talk over the head set, and I always laugh every time some one actually tries to pronounce "qporscheq."

Bruce was really way out there. I studied Wing Chun for some time, which you may know is the Kung Fu style that Bruce based his JKD on and the built on that!
BTW-Wing Chun is a pretty amazing art in itself.

limoncello
04-27-2005, 12:37
Limoncello is an after dinner drink in Italy, made from grain alcohol, lemon peel, and sugar - kept in the freezer and served ice cold. The perfect end to an Italian meal, cuts right through the heavy tastes and refreshes, rejunenates. I worked in Italy for seven years (3 different times - once each in the 70s, 80s, and 90s).
Kids are now out of college & working, so the Porsche is the after dinner drink.
Both car and drink are thoroughly yellow.
But it won't fit on a license plate...too many letters.
PS The kids (mid 20's) love the car. Gets them to come home more often =)

There you go! Life is sweet, isn't it?
YellowJacket
04-27-2005, 18:10
Mine's pretty easy. I have an engineering degree from Georgia Tech (the yellow jackets) and as a new entry into the world of full-time work, I'm quite proud of my degree, hence my screen name.
It's funny because I have gotten a couple comments from people on here who assume it's a reference to my car's color. However, my car is actually black.
p.s. The first time that I used this screen name, the jackets were in the Final Four, about to head off to the championship game, so it was a sports pride thing at that time, too. However -- when football season starts back up, I may have to be a bit more humble about my beloved team! ;)
I've rode big bore 4-stroke Honda dirt bikes for over 20 years. The sound of those single cylinder 4-strokes sounds like "Thump" "Thump" etc. Hence Thumper.
Brucelee
04-27-2005, 20:38
I had a Suzuki 400CC one cylinder. Thump is just about right!
Bushwhacker
04-27-2005, 21:24
Up here in the Northwoods, to travel in a straight line, rather than to go around every fallen tree and stream, is to "bushwhack". That, and the little incident with the .30-30 and the county assesser ;) (nah, just kidding).
P.S. Got my '05 S yesterday, have been diligently performing break in...
When I got my Black '98, I was dedicating at lot of time reconditioning the car and getting it up to speed. The wife was feeling kind of neglected and not too thrilled with the idea of me spending time in a "new" convertible.....One day (out of spite) she started referring to my car as Pablito, like I practically gave birth to, hence the screen name.
Pilot2519j

My handle is the call sign of the first airplane I soloed and of my love for aviation, studied Aero Eng. All the way through training I had new Cessnas with electric flaps, tapered wings all the latest electronics. Yes life was sweet for the budding pilot in the making, but at the day of the solo flight I get a 1960 Cessna that reminded me of my 1964 VW bug. The flaps you had to pull a lever much like the handbrake of a VW and it had a nose strut shimmy in short I had been dealt an old jalopy for my test. Nothing but the best for yours truly. :)
Like all pilots you always remember fondly your call sign of the airplane you solo in. Mine was Nancy two-five-one-niner-Juliet. N 2519-J flying out of MacArthur Airport in Long Island.
andicati
04-28-2005, 01:54
Andicati is a truncation of Andrew and Ducati. I am a complete nut for Ducati motorcycles as my signature will show. I have used this name so long that it has pretty much become my web persona. The Boxster with roof down on a windy road is the closest experience in a car that approaches the experience of riding my Ducatis, hence I feel quite comfortable including the Boxster in my "stable".
Brucelee

Ducs rule. Love them!
Boxster owner in the UK - pretty easy really
Percymon on most other forums, cos i collect persimmon golf clubs (thats the old wooden ones  )

Unlike most others, I choose a different screen name for each board.
I use a name that is fitting to each board and its culture. Like this board, or the Lexus board, where I find that most people are perhaps better educated or at least take the time to write properly, I might choose a more "grown up" name. In boards where the audience is more 16 to 25, I might choose a zippier name.
Although this might seem paranoid, in this age of powerful Internet search engines, I don't necessarily want people to know that my passion for cars is linked with my passion for computers, especially when they are both linked to to my passion for frilly women's underwear. Just kidding! but you know what I mean.
Or sometimes I just choose a radical name to shake things up a bit.
One of the more interesting names I've used is:...
Ginger Lynn Allen
:)
9000RPMan
05-22-2005, 18:15
9000 RPM refers to the redline of my old S2000.
Mine's really boring--it's my old login from UCSD. They use your first initial, last initial, and last name.
E. S. Lai = eslai
I pretty much use that for everything... so uncreative...
I use to own a 1999 Toyota Tacoma, (Taco) that was bagged and had the following (KRZ) mods:
--Full rear tube subframe
--independent rear suspension from a BMW 2002 ti
--Rims, interior the whole bit
Oh. Man, I keep reading that as "Crazy Taco". :D
slogans7
06-01-2005, 18:46
When she was in grade school, one of my daughters was asked what her parents did for a living. While I had already been managing marketing campaigns for computer companies for some time, Amanda distilled this rather nebulous job to, "He writes slogans." I've used it for the many years since then, just adding a "7" for no good reason.
It's been my login name for pretty much everything for as long as I can remember. It came from a silly, non-sensical "conversation" ("story"?) I had with a friend back in high school. The kind where you both keep adding more funny/ridiculous lines...
"Hi there, weclome to Ho Land. Can I take your order?"
"Yeah, I'd like a ho please."
"Sure. And will that be for here or to go?"
"To go, please. I'd like a ho to go."
Your mileage may vary but it was an instant classic in our books. :D I'm a little older now & worry that people might get offended by it but it's really just meant to be silly.

delirious-from my favorite band Deliriou5? and GA - from Georgia.
Call sign while in Korea. Not very original, however I couldn't think of anything else. The Army stole my imagination and will to live a long time ago. Franks and Beans!
Zagit is my name. It is ancient name, and rare, like a box in nebraska. :)
Only its difficult to remember, so most of my friends know me as Z, and Zagit is only for very close ones.
lexuspilot

When I bought my Lexus GS400 in 2000 and was a member of clublexus.com, I just continued to use the name in all forums. I still fly for a living.
Lexuspilot...are you a demo pilot for Cirrus?
lexuspilot
07-15-2005, 01:24
I am the Regional Director for Cirrus for the South. I demo the airplanes, sell them, market them, and manage the region.
Wow, sounds like an ideal job. I had lost all faith in general aviation and the direction it was headed until Cirrus hit the market. What a beautiful and complete airplane. I wish there was more of them in the rental fleet. After flying B-200 and Dash 7's, I have no desire to rent a 172/182 or the "Aircraft Dejour" from the local FBO and slog it out at 4000 feet in the soup with one very old vacuum tube and questionable maintenance.
I believe in the direction Cirrus and other companies are going with composites and upgraded avionics. I would definitely feel comfortable flying a Cirrus with family on board. Excellent concept and business model, especially with the fractional ownerships. Unfortunately, living in a few select big cities is the only way to get access to the program.
Any chance of Cirrus upping the horsepower and breaking the 200kts barrier?
Good deal and I guess I better start reading the back of car magazines for the "magical" jobs. Completion of my Army committment is coming quite fast! Cheers.
Name of my racing sailboat, an Olson 30, that handled as well as our new Boxster.
mine started out as a joke... we had a message board for one of my classes that we used for homework help, but to keep it anonymous we weren't allowed to use our real names... one of my friends suggested I use wombat, but i wanted to add a number to it so it became wombat7
PorscheCat
10-13-2005, 03:42
My screen name reflects two of my favorite things/beings. By the way, my cats names are Porsche and Carrera. People laugh when I tell them their names!
Suzanne Segal
Mine's easy.. my name is Berj :)
As you can see for those into bikes I have a RC51. Honda factory hotrod designed for racing.
70Sixter
10-14-2005, 19:48
70Sixter is from my 1970 914-6 that shares the garage with the Box. I've used it in other venues for a long time.
My name - not a financial comment.
airboxster
11-05-2005, 18:51
The boxster is obvious and the air is part of one of my companies names.
blinkwatt
11-06-2005, 04:04
The blink part of my screen name is from my favorite band,blink-182 and combined with "watt" I think it sounds cool.
Patto is my nick name, shortening of my surname.
tailofdragoneater
12-09-2005, 03:38
tail of the dragon is a well known place for motorcycle enthusiasts.
But my boxter likes those same curves.
 It is between Robbinsville NC and Maryville Tenn.Crazy bikes will still pass you at times. But sometimes they wind up as a bug.You know on someones wind shield.I love to ride bikes also, but it is not a race track. It is still a road.
Mine's really just my name (seriously)....Joseph Carlo Bartolo Xavier....Seriously that's all my name!
RIDE... My main hobby and passion is cycling, both road and mountain. I also enjoy snowboarding. So long ago, when trying to come up with an email address, I came up with the phrase "rideamountain" and over the years in forums, people began to call me "RIDE"....so it stuck.
Now I enoy "ride"ing in my Boxster!
RIDE
wild1poet2
12-10-2005, 20:08
Wild1 is the brand name of the apehangers on my harley as well as the state of mind that one attains at speeds above 90mph jammin through traffic especially in a pack of likeminded souls. The poet is the contemplative and cerebral side which finds as much beauty in the gears of a syncromesh transmission as in the petals of the lotusflower.
It's not the destination its the ride.
My tag refers to my other passion street rods. I'm lucky enough to have 2...My 1940 Ford pickup Red with flames, body and bed are sitting on a 1957 chevy car frame, running a 327 small block 4 barrel and a 400turbo, air , cruise and all the amenities! My other rod is an original 1929 ford roadster on an original 1932 frame, 350 4 speed and a chrysler positraction unit supended by quarter eliptic springs ( a real white knuckle ride). The roadster is a dark blue highboy that is smoothed. :D

Name is simply where I live. I have not found another Boxster owner from Wyoming on any of these boards yet. I know of at least a couple other owners in the region.

I am an uncle (recently a grandpa as well!)
I'm a University of Oklahoma graduate and fan of the Sooners. Sooner came from the homesteaders who could not wait for land to open in the "Land Runs" so they came in before to stake a claim. The land runs were literally everyone would line up their wagons and horses and run when the Cavalry fired to start the run for land.
Box is obvious, and tex is because of the beutifull state that I call home now.

I am a big Star Wars Fan and one of my favorite characters is a bounty hunter named Jango Fett. I am such a big fan of Jango that I created my own replica suit from the movie. So I just combined the 2 most fanatical hobbies I have, Jango and my boxster. Yeah I am a geek.

If anyone remembers the XFL, you will remember "HEHATEME" aka Rod Smart, formerly? of the Carolina Panthers. When he was "popular" some of my friends called me "HAPE" which is half of my last name. One of they guys thought everyone was saying HAKE, so everyone called me Hake to make fun of him. It stuck and during flag footaball season, it turned into "HEHAKEME" and grew from there. To this day that guy thinks my last name is spelled with a K.

How about a pic of you in your Jango Fett suit, driving the Box? That would be a nice avatar !
Bull was the nickname of a best friend who passed away in a fire at Salve Regina college in Newport, RI '99. Bull is also the name of my pitbull who was obviously named after my buddy. 27 is my football number.

I agree, a photo of Jango Fett driving the Boxster is a must. The colors of the costume work with the Boxster colors. Photoshop it a bit to put on a celestial background and some X-wings in the distance, and there is one truly unique avatar!
Northern VA, near our capital DC? Watch out for Homeland Security while filming. That would definitely wake up the I-95 crowd on their way to work.

Woman Boxster owner = Boxtress. Yes, I know I left the "S" out, but I didn't want it to read, "BoxSTRESS." It's a stress alleviator, not a causant.

Well that explains the first part of my SN, and E39 is the model designation for the BMW 5 Series 97-2004

Well, I have mine for quite a while. My wife is Chinese and according to Chinese numerology the number 8 stands for LUCK and the number 3 stands for LIFE. The number 3 is pronounced as "sum" in cantonese. Hence, 8SUM8 = Luck, Life, Luck or so I wish for a life with double the amount of luck. My Box's plate is "8SUM8", my Mercedes ML 500's plate is 8THREE8, and my Turbocharged Miata is "88SUM88".

My signature, Et Tu Boxsterus is a play on Shakespeare "et tu Brute. . ." meaning "even you, Brute. . . "
