Went down to the dealership today at lunch with the wife to pick up some parts and among the boxsters on the small showroom floor was none other than a black on black Carrerra GT.
I had never been up close to one... just pictures in magazines and on the web.
The car is shorter than I thought... not that much longer than my Boxster.
I must say though, the styling and the engine size are very impressive, but the interior is not that great.
I sure would enjoy driving this car one day. But, since I have no ultra-wealthy Porsche fanatics as friends, I doubt this will ever happen! :(

I saw my first Carrera GT in London in December 04. We were visiting and walking through Mayfair, when my wife pointed at a car in the traffic and said "Wow Alex, look at that Porsche". Thinking it was a 996 Turbo or GT2/3 I started to say something, but then when I saw it I stopped mid-sentence. There was this beast of a car burbling along at about 10mph, just cruising. It looked fantastic. You could hear the engine and gearbox whine screaming "I feel the need, the need for speed!!!!!". This was one black on black too.
Sadly, they are not coming to Australia. :( LHD only, so all we got to see was a silver show car at the Melbourne Motor Show last year....... Looked much better in black, and on the road.....

I saw LHD cars in Sydney, driven by rich guys... so I'm sure someone will import one and pay the premium to have a LHD car in your country. You may never see the car on the road though, seeing as it's exotic, outlandishly expensive to repair and maintain, and if I were that lucky owner, I'd be driving straight toward Ayers Rock at 170+ mph away from civilization so I could maintain high speeds.
Australia is a great place to drive cars fast. Lots of desolate roads once you get an hour or two inland, huh?
(We've been to Cairns twice for vacation and other places on the east coast, including Tasmania... Australia is an absolutely wonderful place to live as long as you don't live inland!)

At Silver Star in Mineola there is one on display at the showroom. Silver with a big sign "DO NOT TOUCH" so much to gettting close to one of those magnificent machines. Naturally I would want to have one fo those Carrerras but the reality and possibility is zero to nil. So I console myself, rather very happily, to my Boxster S that is just as badass as the phat Carrera GT
I saw a black one in the museum last June at Mid-America porsche fest. I have to agree with the Aussie...it looks best in black.
I like the looks of your Porsche better, Porschekid!
I led our local PCA spring tour on a 4 hour drive through the twisties. Much to our surprise one of our members showed up in his Carrera GT.
I got to follow him for about 30 minutes, the sounds that car makes....

Yes, the GT is really out of this world! If you believe in trickle down economics.........
I've seen a couple at the dealerships here. I don't get the woodgrain shift knob? But that wouldn't stop me from having one if I could.
The Bay Area is a great place if you're a car fanatic. 911 and Boxster are a dime a dozen. Same with M3, M5, SL55 AMG, etc. There's a fair amount of Ferraris and a few Lambos. I've seen up close all of the exotics, seen most on the road in action, and even got to drive a few. My favorite so far is seeing an orange Murcielago hauling ass up an onramp. It looked wicked, sounded wicked, and was wicked. There are some big rollers here with amazing car collections.

While at one of the Porsche dealership here in Houston I was able to listen to a CGT on the show room of all places, on start up it almost sounded like a lawn mower but after a few quick blips on the gas man I could tell it was wicked!!!!! :D

They have one at McKenna Porsche in Norwalk, CA.

Living inland isn't that bad! I lived in Alice Springs (Central Australia) for 9 years, let me tell you something about the Northern Territory . . .no speed limits on the open roads :D
Matter of fact Porsche used to do their hot weather testing in Alice Springs, it's where I first saw the GT3. I think they now do it in South Africa because it's closer and easier for transporting etc.
Here's a pic I took of a Carrera GT at last years Sydney International Motorshow.

I saw one at my local dealer, silver with black leather, really sweet. I thought it was kind of funny that it had a normal dealer invoice sticker on the window, you know: floormats $295, wood shift knob $400, etc. all the way down to the total, $400k+. If you can afford that thing do you really need to see the price?
I've seen them in person , they are cool......seen them driving and they look and sounds SOOO BADASS!!!!

Dealership here in Denver has a GT in Guards Red. Started it up for me and it sounds just like a F-1 car. As you know it's all composite and I hear a handful to drive. Porsches' answer to the Enzo is awsome and at roughly $500,000 about half the drive away price! Car is rather the same size as a Boxter and maintains the "Porsche" look. PowerBall... don't fail me now!!! An awsome machine!

I have an interesting story! I stopped at a local dealership today, between meetings, to kill a little time. They were prepping a Carrera GT for delivery to a customer. They had the car up on a lift and where taking digital photos. I asked the Service Manager about the photos. He told me the car has a crack in the underbody body-panel! The damage either occurred by someone improperly lifting the car or bottoming-out. The body panel cost $65,000!!! :)
