There are so many... these are just ones that I will watch over and over!
Pappillon: not so odd a paring really (think Midnight Cowboy.. similar sort of character played by Dustin Hoffman in Pappillon). A terriffic movie. Its about the terrible squallor and treatment the prisoners received in the penal colony on French Guyana in the 50s(?) Both McQueen and Hoffman were sentenced to what amounted to life sentences for minor offences, and after many many years one of them escapes. It's purported to be a true story and, in fact, after the movie was released several mags published interviews with the escapee (you'll have to watch it.. i won't spoil the plot for you!) . The colony was closed shortly afterwards. Its both a very depressing and funny movie, and amazing to see what cruelty people will inflict on each other. And wonderful acting by both Hoffman (who should have won an academy award for his role) and McQueen. (not intending to start a discussion of the penal system here.. anyway,,,, the colony was French, and we all know what the French are capable of!!! ) flame suit on :)
Bob
Oh.. and I forgot Pulp Fiction in my list!

Bob
Since when do people get flamed here for insulting the French? They make an artform of insulting us. Still, I think the correct stereotype would be to have them muck the whole prison up with complaining government regulations and then surrender it to the prisoners while selling nuclear secrets to the Iranians and blaming the American government for the fall of mankind.
Anyway, more good movies to add to the list (trying not to repeat):
Donnie Darko
Complex World
Commando
½ of the Kung Fu movies out there (the other half suck)
From Dust to Glory
Death Race 2000

Doc, it is a good movie, and I like Sir Anthony Hopkins. I watched it with my young daughters and 2 nephews. They loved it too. Especially at the end when they realized it was based on true events.
My 9 year old daughter was a little perplex, about why a man (Sir Anthony) kissed another man who was dressed as a woman! I let the wife handle that one!! :)

Off the top of my head and in no particular order:
You're right Jeff. The Wire rocks!
_____________________________
Let me tell you. Whenever I recommend the Wire to friends, they're never disappointed. Even my wife teases me because I'm always looking at, reciting, imitating the Wire jargon. Her joke to me is her calling the Wire the new Shakespeare.
I can't disagree. In 100 years, our progeny will be calling the Wire the "Shakespeare" of the 21st century. Dead serious. Makes me want to visit Baltimore. Ok maybe only during the day, and under police escort.
You're from that area aren't you. Is Baltimore becoming gentrified like so many other cities?

Yet another classic. I'm sure our MANY, MANY IT guys out there appreciate this film. If you haven't seen it you must.
"Just send me a copy of those TPS reports and that'll be GREAT!!' Even my kids tease me about this one.

Actually, that's what makes The Wire so great. It's dead up accurate. What you see on The Wire is exactly what B'more is like. Once you get out of the Inner Harbor tourist area, don the armor boys.

The Wire was absolutely the Best show on HBO, better than Sopranos (great writing but once again we make sociopaths out to be human, which they are not thus they end up getting acquitted by juries like Gotti Jr.)
The Wire was one of those shows I had to watch with closed captioning and Tivo because the jargon was so dense on character says: "Webay got wind in em' "
??????
Translation: Webay has wind in him (means the character Webay has the courage to murder someone).
Yes, Wall Street and American Pyscho totally forgot those, inexcusable because I quote those film at least twice a day. The final scene in AP where they show Reagan on TV (grandpa by day, secretely planning wars at night) was an A+.
and Snatch, Lock Stock, really liked Traffic and...
+ add a couple more to the list here:
Dual
Hunt For Red October
Repo Man
History of the World

No. I checked the movie car chase database and it didn't list one either.

I seem to remember it used to have one listed for the Boxster though - it was somthing obscure, but I swear it was in there.

My all time favorite
1) American Psycho 2000 There is an idea of a Patrick Bateman; some kind of abstraction. But there is no real me: only an entity, something illusory. And though I can hide my cold gaze, and you can shake my hand and feel flesh gripping yours and maybe you can even sense our lifestyles are probably comparable... I simply am not there.
2) After Hours when Soho use to be a cool place to hangout
3) The Big Lebowski "the dude"
4) Dumb and Dumber "# 1 comedy film"
5) Fearless (best karate film)
