Cars the movie

My wife gave me a Cars DVD yesterday for the Marine Corps Birthday, and we watched it last nite. I'm going to watch it again (and maybe again & again) and play with the goodies not in the movie.

BUT.... I was kinda let down. Maybe expectations were too high. Maybe I wasn't in the right mood. Certainly it was not an Ice Age or either Shreck version. Wish I'd kept that Autoweek that noted the things to watch for!

Good side was that Sally Carrera was a good character. The 911 + lawyer thing coulda been reeelly bad. Owen Wilson's famous accent was barely there??? Mrs Sixter thought the music was good. Cartoonery was good. Story line not as great.

I give it a solid B or maybe B+. Or 5 spark plugs outta 6. Definitely worth having and watching more than once.

Thanks for reminding me of the Marine Corps Birthday. My father and his best friend used to torment each other with endless Corps-related jokes on that day. One year, we were sailing on the Chesapeake in two boats. At night we lashed the boats together to sleep. At O-dark-thirty on November 10, my Dad's friend got up on the deck of his boat and started playing revelry for all he was worth. My Dad, obviously getting prepared for whatever crap he had up his sleeve, immediately appeared on the deck of our boat in Marine Corps Dress Blue pajamas (boxer shorts and a t-shirt made to look like dress blues) and a toy rifle, reported for duty at the top of his lungs and started going through his drill team routine. Maybe you had to be there, but we laughed so hard I thought I'd fall off the boat and drown.

I recently found some pictures of the two of them together when I was helping my Mom go through my Dad's things. I need to mail them off to his friend.

As for Cars, I enjoyed it. It wasn't Toy Story, but then again, what is?
