View Full Version : wreckless driving?

I heard today from a friend that someone in my neighborhood wants to file a police report on me for wreckless driving in my boxster. He is blowing it way out of proportion. I should be the one who is pissed because he was the one walking in the middle of the road. Apparantly the guy did not get my tags but is asking around to see if anyone knows them.
I was just wondering if anything can actually happen to me, or if I will probably just get a warning or something if the guy actually tracks me down.

I'm no attorney, but the guy can make a complaint to the police, but the police still got to catch you doing something wrong. His complaint may make the police more aware. What is the posted speed limit? Are children present in this part of your neighborhood? Many neighbors banding together, could make things nasty for you.
I don't know the rules & necessary steps for a "citizen’s arrest".

Not sure what the laws are out there in VA, but, a citizen's arrest is unlikely here...when someone does a citizen's arrest, it's at a great risk to them because they can be liable for false imprisonment. Also, because the police did not observe you committing this alleged act, it will be simply the neigbor's word against yours.
Tell them to get a life.
These guys are right. The Officer would have to witness you committing an offense to be able to write a citation. Most often the Police won't even follow-up on a complaint like this, knowing that they can't take any enforcement action anyway.
Now, if they receive multiple complaints about the same vehicle, or vehicles, they may set up a special attention assignment to catch you in the act.
To be on the safe side, be real stealth rolling through your neighborhood for a while, till things blow over.

Even better, always obey the speed limit and be attentive when you drive through your neighborhood, or any others. Be aware that there may be adults, children, or pets in the street at any time. After all, it's a neighorhood.
Hey, even dogs don't crap where they sleep. ;)

Well, yeah, you'd probably be better off doing it Jack's way. :o

This keeps coming up, but is always good advice:
You should burn down your neighbor's house.

ROFL!!! :p
Hey if he does find you and starts anything, tell him you heard that a typical guy in the street only earns a driver 2 points for hitting him squarely... however, everyone knows that idiots who stand in the street are worth 5 points and well, you were just trying to get those extra points!
Then run like hell or the idiot will take a swing at you.

i got a warning letter last month. I had this lady cut me off three time's in traffic as she tried to go in and out of traffic, on her phone, with no indication. i got soooo pissed, i cut her off, and stoped her in traffic for about 2 -3 mins. so she sat on my bumper yelling and screaming. then she calls the police and i get a warning letter in the mail. i figure the next time i get pulled over, they will see the complaint and give me a nice fat ass ticket, no reduced fine, not gonna be nice i know. that's about all that they can do. but it for sure should be on file, and the cop will see it when he runs your plate.

WOW! What state do you live in?
If the chump keeps trying to make your life hard just make an anonymous phone call to the police alerting them that this person has been seen at the local school yard trying to pick up kids. Just kidding... just lay low and give the people in the road the right of way

....I should be the one who is pissed because he was the one walking in the middle of the road....
You know, that's what people do in neighborhoods. They walk in the street, play in the street.
Given that it must happen all the time that a car comes by, why in the world would he go after you? I mean I've been pissed at drivers before but never so much that I would actually make an active effort to find the person. I don't know what really happened but I have a pretty good hunch about why he's pissed.
At the very least take it easy in your own neighborhood. To paraphrase JackG, "Don't shit where you eat".....

The Pilot likes it! Paint the house with a laser marker oops! Drive slower in the neighborhood for a while and smile at the imbecile that is bothering you. Next car get the Abbysinian hubs that come out and chop legs off, oops. ;)

There are so many variables here. Is reckless driving a misdemeanor or a civil infraction in VA? If it is a civil infraction its highly unlikely you've got a problem. But they could (NOTE: COULD) bring witnesses or this witness to testify against you if they decide to issue a ticket. It's done occasionaly in some civil infractions here in MI.
If reckless driving is a misdemeaor, then you're not out of the woods yet. It just depends if you live in a small town or not. Idle hands and all. Local cops may pursue the matter, may determine that your black Boxster, probably rare in the area, is invovled.
Just remember to obey all laws and you won't have future problems.
