As more rumors heat up about a possible merger between Sirius and XM I am wondering what happens if you have a Sirius radio now. Can they merge the technology? Will you have to buy new receivers?
Any ideas.

well they already sell adapters that will allow you to run either in your car
(some people actually subscribe to both). So I imagine it will only require
a hardware upgrade.
A merger makes sense so that they won't have to spend all this money
marketing against each other. But as a consumer mergers in fields with few players are usually not good.
With the auto makers making it part of standard audio equipment, I think satellite radio is going to become a huge business. I've had Sirius for about 2 years now ocassionaly I forget to bring the unit with me in the Boxster and man do I quickly realize how bad free radio sucks, one commerical after another and the same song being played multiple times in a single hour. If they can figure out a way to stream it to new generation low battery consumption cell phones with MP3 of course for satellite radio portability that would really change things in a hurry.
I can record streams with my current MP3 player plugging it directly into the aux. port of my Sirius tuner. Verizon, Blackerry, Microsoft Zune and Sirius should all get in a room and work it out.

WOW.....very sad. I just realized that the CNET editor reviewing the Sirius player in the clip I posted is the same James Kim who died in the Oregon Wilderness trying to find help for his family. I was just reading a story about how he was found less than a mile from a fishing lodge when I put the face in the CNN story together with the face millions have watched in his many electronic gadget reviews for a while now. really terrible.
