Anyone with an opinion on this car and the price?
I bought the Boxster from these folks and they seemed very straight up.

Wow, 20 year old 911 for nearly 20K. Not bad. THe old 993's are doing very well also. Although looking at the latest issue of Excellence under the market update, there seems to be an across the board halt in the increasing value of Porsches. They were climbing steadily every year. Gotta love buying a car that doesn't lose value. Best of both worlds.
p.s.
I bet you there's a little puddle under that car. And why do they put lard on tires when selling cars. That looks awful.

Are we talking about in addition to the Boxster, or in place of it?
If we're talking about in place of the Boxster, well, that would be completely unacceptable. Should you leave the ranks, who would take your place as Master Inventor and Innovator?
If we're talking about in addition to the Boxster, why not look for a coupe instead of a Targa and save yourself the unneeded stress of trying to decide which one to drive on a picture-perfect day?
Other than the above, at first glance, it looks to be a really nice car. At that age, better to spend a few more dollars to buy a really nice example, than to go bargain hunting and end up with an average car.

I gotta agree with Grizzly (again) on both issues.
1. Get a hard top. You already have a convertible and it's one less thing you have to fix, replace, or worry about (leaks, noise, etc.)
2. The cheapest Pcar to buy is the most expensive one to own. If that car doesn't have a repair history a mile long where the previous owner(s) have replaced a bunch of suspension, brake, tranny and engine components, you will be doing it in your first two years of ownership.
I will say though that I would love to have this car or a hardtop just like it. The wife would actually have a calf though... and she simply doesn't have a pelvis built for that sort of thing.

Well guys....
I guess this will be as good a time as any.....
I have a major confession.
Here goes.......
I actually bought the Boxster for my wife, it's her daily drive. (ducking and covering)
I have a weary 1992 Miata with >100,000 miles that I adore.
Am I banished?

OMG!!!
I guess the next thing you are going to admit is that you really do not poke your finger in men's butts!
:D
My Boxster is actually my wife's also, so I was totally cool with it...until you said you have a Miata...and... you adore it!
Men should never drive Miatas, unless they poke men's butts for recreation. See, that's where you got confused. You got the whole profession/recreation thing bollixed up.

Uro...theres nothing to be ashamed of buying a boxster for the wife. I bought the Boxster too for my wifey, part of my strategy to get my 96' C4 Cab or 97' 993 C2 Cab or 87' Wide Body/Slantnose 930 in the near future.
As a daily driver, I use my 03' C230 Komp. coupe...it just so happen that I'm my wifey's humble driver and maintenance guy of the Boxster :D
I hang out into this forum to learn more about Boxster and use what i learned in here to impress my wife..hehehehehe, but of course I don't take the credit, I always tell her that i got it from this forum so she won't get upset when she see me infront of the computer browsing the forums.
I use to hang out in the 993 forums, go hang out with them on the drives but sometimes the air in that forum/gathering doesn't fit to my kind of personallity, it's like they have their own clique. But the more I hang around here the more I'm leaning towards 03' to 05' Boxster S :D

It's really part of the grand plan that terminates in buying a 330 GTC. :)
She's actually at the point of begging me to "just buy the d**m thing" but I think the pursuit is more fun than the kill.
To tell the truth, I've sent deposits on 3 of them but all 3, sadly, failed the PPI.
Here they are, never to be in my garage:

I often see a guy driving a GTC on my way to work. I work odd hours and travel frequently, but I see him a lot on days when I go into the office. He's a young guy, obviously driving it to work. I'm sure it's not his daily driver, but he certainly uses it often. It's silver-blue. Very nice looking, at least from what I can tell in passing.
It's interesting that you say the pursuit is more fun than the kill. Truer words were never spoken. Basking in the achievement of a goal rarely lasts a fleeting moment before I begin thinking, "O.K., now what?". Anyone know of a cure for this very expensive peculiarity?

Work on shortening your attention span. If you change your interest before actually making the purchase, you'll never spend the money. I suggest high doses of caffine and watching more TV to accomplish this.

Miata is one of the best cars ever made. PERIOD.
Probably the most represented car in grass roots motorsports.
Hard to attend an autocross or track day without seeing more of them than any other car. Best selling sports car ever according to Guiness Records.
The right combination of low weight, even balancing, bullet proof reliability, adequate power, responsive throttle, good gearing ratios. As far as I'm concerned its the closest thing I've driven to my old direct drive go kart that is actually somewhat practical (unlike the Lotus Elise).
You would be amazed at how much fun less than $5K will buy you for a tastefuly moded Miata. The newer ones are way too pricey. Kinda like buying a Boxster except you aint buyin' no $4K Boxster that aint fallin' apart.
Had my MX5 for what was supposed to be only a year and turned into five. Took another great car being discovered to get me to part with the Miata.
A garage with a Miata and a Boxster is a definitely a DRIVER'S garage.
Some of the best drivers I have met swear by that tuna fish can.
p.s.
Don't let your wifey drive that thing everyday. Miata vs. SUV on the highway, no contest! I do not recommend the Miata for winter commuting, you are way too at the mercy of SUV's, their shitty brakes and stupid drivers. The car is not safe in side impact with a 4 ton speeding object.
Very shiny '86 Targa in that link. Way to much armor all for me. Would prefer to see it up close. Certainly a PPI is in order to check compression and make sure valves guides aren't failing. Red/Black combo is likely the most popular one out there, so its not that rare. Targas have been known to be squeaky and leaky or perfectly fine. Would like to see those top seals up close.
Even at $18K (starting bid) it would appear a bit overpriced. If it was a later G50 trans car, then, MAYBE $18. This car, to sell, is a $15K car. Tops.

Oh, this guy is good.
HHAHA yea hes good.
but a comment on miata, although they are very well represented cars, and handle like a dream, i dont think i would be cought dead driving one of those (my buddy has one, i barely even fit inside one in a parking lot). i dont know, theres just something about those cars that i dont like at al, just cant put a fnger to it, i guess it doesnt have any kinda curb appeal, but on any forum when people ask what kinda cars they had befor they bought the one that the forum prepresents, a lot of people say miata.
so yea, i respect that car, but in my opinion its ugly and small and i dunno...like you know when youre driving and u see a car and then youre like woa thats kool or somethign like that, well if i see a miata its the same as seing a buick (well that may be a pat of the plan). o well, maybe i shouldnt have said anything, but whenever these miata threads pop up i never say anything heheh
