Hey Forum

Anybody currently in a l. distance relationship? Or have been?

Im dating a girl that lives in NJ . Im in san diego. we've been dating seriously for a yr.

Anybody gone thru anything like this.. with marriage coming out of it.

She comes from a traditional family which makes it tough for her to travel etc. Old school rules makes for difficulty.

I'm sorta at a crossroads... i can see her raising my kids. But with her being so close to her family .. i don't know how strenuous this will be on our relationship?

I'll keep the box ... no worries about that..

any wisdom?

Patrick

One question, How many times have you seen her inperson? if the answer is 0, then forget about it and stop meeting girls on TeamSpeak while playing WoW.

Personally The longest distance relationship i had ever been in was from one end of the 110 freeway to the other end of it, It worked, she lives with me now and we have been together for 5 years. But from San Pedro to Pasadena is pale in compairison to SD to NJ

Been there done that.

Met a girl online while I was in San Francisco, Ca and she was finishing her Masters in Toronto, Ca (Ca as in Canada).

Email / IM and phone calls for the first month then during break she flew down to meet me in person (turned out her parents lived not too far from me).

Anyhow went on for about a year of either me flying to Canada or her flying out to California once or twice a month. . . . . . .

So now we have been married for seven years.....

and yes we live in the same city & house now :)

Good Luck

well, patrick..let me tell you my love story..hehehe( that didnt come out right) anyways,
I met her while i was down here in CA. for summer break thru a friend over the phone...we've been talking for like 2 weeks and then it's time for me to go back to Philippines...went back again for summer break and never look back....18 years later, we are still together :)

I would say that it depends on how would you handle it. It seems like that you guys are not together yet and your already worried about her being close/attached to her family..so think about it really hard before you decide on what to do. Remember in a lomg term relationship or marriage is not about who's right, who's wrong, who wear pants..it's a teamwork! theres no I in team or WE :D

Yes, I am in a long distance relationship. I am in Indy this week for work and my wife and little girls are home in Chicago!

My girlfriend and I had a long distance relationship for several months after we both graduated from college. She was in Chicago and I was starting a company in St. Louis. Long story short...we have now been married for 14 years this February.

We need to get Jeph to chime in here. He was forced to have a long distance relationship with his boxster for weeks on end after a trainwreck of a disagreement between him, the car and a valet stand.

I don't think it went so well for him :ah:

thanks for the replies. Time will tell i guess. I see her appx. once a month. Nearly not enough for me to really feel her out 100% . Im a firm believer that a relationship must be 50/50 and I understand that you must always work at it.

She's a car girl too.. wait.. that may be bad for me.

My girlfriend goes to school in Finland and I'm here in Texas. We see each other every few months. In 2003 I moved to Scotland and she to Finland; it was supposed to be for only one year. After Scotland I lived with her in Finland for about 8 months (love the country) but then had to get a job and here I am. One more year and she'll be Girlfriend, PhD! Just this morning she asked for my Boxster as a graduation present

Patrick,

We miss ya around the forum man. You should stop by more often.

Hang in there man, from what I know/heard she’s a great girl. Family is really strong in our culture you know that. She’s young and probably feels super comfortable with her family being around. That’s why it’s hard thinking and knowing that she will eventually have to leave a comfortable environment for CA. It is definitely something that should be discussed between the two of you often. The last thing you want is for either of you to feel forced into anything and again knowing how the cultures work that does happen sometimes. Wish you all the best. Say hello to the family. If you’re ever around LA let me know.

Take care,
James D.

James , thanks for chiming in... you know how it works.. everything is cool between us .. its just that distance puts a spin on things from time to time.

I think its a mix of missing her and being strapped to a cell phone that gets annoying .

Hard for either one of us to visit because of work etc.

good looking out. I'll come out to LA soon.. just as soon as this freezing weather lightens up

Not only can you get advice on Porsche Boxsters but also relationships, watches, marsupial turds... ;)

I REALLY DO LOVE THIS FORUM!!! :D

Long distance never worked for me. I'm always on the go and always want Ms. Right to be by my side. It seems like what I could cram in one month of knowing someone would take me a year to do so via long distance. I guess I'm just too impatient...
