Instructions for de-snorkeling

The following are instructions/pictures for removing the air intake snorkel. This is basically lifted from instructions on PPBB, but for anyone here who doesn't have it, I'll paste it below. I don't take credit for this, but thanks to the kind soul who took these pictures.

Remove this screw

Push the blind in
First under

Left

Right

Confirm that the blind is free and
press the under left corner to the right and pull outside

Remove the cover like that

Remove the blind and
you will see this

Pull outside the pipe, you shake it simultaneously ( hard )

Remove the pipe like that

Pipe removed!<img src=">

Now to put blinds back.
Separate the removed blinds from the removed air intake cover. First, place the blind leg like this.

Press the leg inside like this, then do the other two legs.

The three legs should look like this.

To replace the cover back in place, press the bottom left corner to the right and in.

Replace the screw.

jwocky,

I like your simple instructions. I just can't see any of your pictures. Am I the only one? What thread @ PPBB did you get the instructions?

My intake grill doesn't quite look like that. Are the instructions the same for the one-piece body matched intake grill on the 03's and 4's?

^I think the '03 and '04 come from the factory de-snorked. Sort of... The intake tract was modified for a more aggressive sound. At least that's what I remember. But I could just be imagining it.

Just about everything I know is on boxa.net. But you need to register to see it.

No, I looked and there is still a snorkel. Just no ash tray on the end of it like on earlier models. Tool paints or anyone else, have you desnorked an 03 or 4?

Strange that there is just one part number for the 1998-2004 air box.

ha ha. You know that they slightly changed the intake grills design for 03. The whole intake grill is one piece now. And that illustration is incorrect slighty in my case. Mine doesn't have the "crap catcher" aka part #13.

I just did that this morning...it makes the car snarl a bit more, and you can hear the engine a little louder.

A friend just bought his and we went for a ride with the 2 cars. His 03 definitely sounds very different than my 02. So there IS a difference
The 03 does not sound louder, but lower...
I like the 03 better and the 987 S which sounds like WOW !!!
