Smile Saved over $700.00 thanks to this site!

I want to thank everybody who responded to the rear humming noise coming from the rear of my 99 boxster. It was a wheel bearing and I was able to remove the entire housing and take it to a local shop in Lake Elsinore, "Gearhardt's".. They have been around since 1960. They pressed out the old bearing and pressed the new one in for only $20.00. The dealer wanted $450-$500 for this job.

1. Bearing cost $74.00 (from dealer)
2. Used a loaner tool (Ball joint Separater from Autozone).

Completed my own 45,000 mile maint.

1. Pollen filter $29.00 Autozone
2. Air filter 21.00 INABA auto parts (Riverside, Ca.)
3. Polyrib belt (after I reach 60,000) $24.59 INABA
4. Oil filter $13.85 INABA
5. Oil (Mobil One synthetic) Autozone 9 qts. $$43.50.
6. 6 NGK spark plugs $29.95 Autozone.

Taking into account what the dealer would have charged for the polyrib belt of at least $50.00, I saved over $700.00. I learned how to do a majority of these repairs from this site. Thanks again!!!

If you can post some DIYer instructions on removing the housing on renntech that would be great. Jeff

It is great that you were able to do all of that yourself. Definitely saves money that way. But most of us probably don't have the time for that kind of thing. I sure don't.

I have found that I get fairly reasonably priced maintenance work done at my local independent Porsche shop, so I can't complain too much. Black Forest in San Diego, they do really great work and I can highly recommend them for service and whatever ails your Porsche.

Glad to hear you were able to work it out with the bearing, and the 45K service. Good work!
