can you 'program a chip' on a stock boxster?

can you 'program a chip' on a stock boxster?
the ECU or whatever? (obviously, I don't know stuff)

And would it help even just a little?
Or does one have to buy a bunch of expensive upgrades to program stuff?

Sure you can but as soon as you change something then the tune is all wrong.

So do other mods first
